Apple continues to see strong growth in wearables

Apple continues to see strong growth in wearable products, largely due to the continued success of what they call wearable products.

According to the latest data from market research firm IDC, Apple sold 23.7 million AirPods and Beats products in the second quarter of 2020.

(IDC) estimates that Apple sold a total of 29.4 million wearables in the second quarter of 2020, integrating the audio category with Apple Watch.

This number increased by more than 25% compared to 23.5 million units in the second quarter of 2019.

Overall, Apple now has a 34.2% share of the mobile device market, up from 31.1% in the third quarter of last year.

According to the US Consumer Technology Buying Index (IDC), self-reported consumer spending on hearing aids manufactured in the United States increased 7% from April to April.

Self-reported spending on smartwatches and fitness trackers has also decreased by about a third.

IDC explained the impact on watches and bracelets (like Apple Watch) versus hearing aids this quarter.

Apple itself admitted that closing retail stores due to the pandemic (COVID-19) had a negative impact on sales (Apple Watch).

Watches and bracelets accounted for 39.2% of the total shipments, up from 46.8% in the second quarter of 2019.

Total shipments of these devices decreased 4.4% to 33.7 million units compared to the previous year.

Big companies like Apple, Xiaomi and Huawei have gained a share and dominance, while many others are trying to convince consumers that these devices "should" be used during the recession.

In the second quarter, the entire mobile device market grew 14.1% year-on-year to 86.2 million.

It should be noted that Fitbit shipments were down 29% in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year, while Huawei saw explosive growth of 58%.
