Sony: Android 11 is coming to Xperia devices

Sony Corporation of Japan has confirmed Android 11 roadmap for some Xperia devices, so the map covers all products one way or the other at this point.

The map shows Sony's efforts over the past few years to simplify Android targeting.

Although this has no real impact on the wider smartphone field, Sony still has a large loyal fan base.

With so many small flagships emerging, it is arguably easier for Sony to update their devices to Android 11.

Starting in December, Sony users will be able to use the latest version of the Android operating system provided by Google.

Sony is gradually updating its phones with Android 11, so its current flagship, the Xperia 1 II, will be updated this month.

Xperia 5 II and Xperia 10 II will be updated from late January 2021, while Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 will be updated from late February 2021.

Sony has not provided any information regarding support for Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus for these devices.

Android 11 makes it easy to manage conversations and privacy settings as you can manage chats in one place and view important conversations with your friends and family in different apps from the lock screen.

As long as the app is supported, conversations can be pinned from any on-screen chat app so that they are always visible on the entire screen and can be better used for multitasking.

It now supports recording screen as video and it is no longer necessary to activate the function via a separate app.

Smart devices such as heating, lighting or home security systems can be controlled via an integrated app. If you press the power button for a long time, the app will launch automatically.

You can now control media playback with the quick settings. All you have to do is press a button to switch from headphone to speaker so that you never miss a single sound.

With intuitive voice commands, you can access applications faster and easier even without an internet connection.

Additional security and privacy updates are automatically sent to your smartphone directly from Google Play, so that the latest protection functions are always installed.

For apps that have not been used for a long time, all permissions are reset automatically.

Here's a look at when the latest compatible Sony smartphones will get the Android 11 update:
