The new HPE Cray EX supercomputer in Cheyenne, Wyoming is one of the fastest supercomputers in the world.

Supercomputers could help study phenomena that could threaten the global positioning system, including climate change, extreme weather conditions, wildfires and solar storms.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) announced that Hewlett-Packard Enterprise has won a tender to supply Chey On Supercomputing with equipment valued at between $ 35 million and $ 40 million.

The system is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Wyoming Supercomputing Center at the National Atmospheric Research Center (NWSC) is funded by the National Science Foundation and the state of Wyoming with permission from the University of Wyoming.

According to this information, the supercomputer HPE Cray EX would be a 19.87 petaflop system, which means that it could theoretically perform about 20 trillion calculations per second.

This means the new supercomputer is 3.5 times faster than the current equipment at Cheyenne Wyoming Supercomputing Center.

The top speed per second of the new machine is roughly what every man, woman, and child on the planet must solve an equation every month for a month.

This computing power can perform some of the most complex simulations of large natural events affected by humans.

According to the National Center for Atmospheric Research, the supercomputer, once installed this year, is expected to be among the world's 25 fastest supercomputers, and will be operational in early 2022.

Center director Everett Joseph (Everett Joseph) said in a press release: The computer helps basic research, provides more detailed and useful predictions for the world around us, which helps confront our society. Be more resilient in the face of increasingly severe disasters and contribute to improving human health and well-being.

Since its opening in 2012, more than 4,000 people from hundreds of universities and other institutions around the world have used the Wyoming Supercomputing Center at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

The facility's current supercomputer, Cheyenne, is three times faster than its predecessor, Yellowstone.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is holding a statewide competition for elementary school students in Wyoming to name the new system.
