Mate X2: Huawei's third-generation foldable phone

Huawei officially unveiled its third-generation foldable phone, the Mate X2, at an online conference.

The Mate X2 follows the Mate X and the Mate Xs. It is a 5G phone that has a lot of similarities with the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Huawei has refreshed the design as the device is now unlocked on the inside instead of outside. Huawei claims to have mastered the method of making the connection, which means there will be some obvious flaws in the fold of the phone.

The largest internal screen size is 8 inches with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels and an aspect ratio of 8: 7.1, while the external screen size is 6.45 inches with a resolution of 2700 x 1160 pixels and an aspect ratio of 21: 9..

Both screens are OLED panels with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and the internal panel supports DCI-P3 colors, while the external panel does not support DCI-P3 colors.

In terms of materials, the steel is cut from a carbon fiber frame to keep the equipment rigid and light.

Huawei said: This phone can use EMUI 11.0 UI based on Android 10 and add it to live broadcast. It will be one of the first phones to update to HarmonyOS in April.

Compared to the Mate Xs 990 chipset, the Mate X2 has the Kirin 9000 chipset. The company previously announced that the Mate 40 will be the last cell phone to receive the Kirin 9000 processor due to US trade sanctions.

The new Huawei phone has 8GB RAM and a 4400mAh battery that can be quickly charged at 55W.

The Leica quadruple camera group in the new phone contains a 50-megapixel wide-angle main camera with a RYYB sensor and f / 1.9 aperture, supports OIS and can record 4K video.

There is a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, f / 2.4 aperture, OIS, an 8MP telephoto camera with f / 4.4 aperture, OIS, 20x hybrid zoom, and a single digital RYYB sensor with up to 100x magnification.

There is also a front camera with a 16-megapixel lens on the outside. The Mate X2 is available in four colors: black, white, crystal blue, and crystal pink.

Not surprisingly, the price of the foldable device is high as the device goes on sale in China on February 25th. The 256GB version costs around $ 2,785 and the 512GB version costs around $ 2,940.

It is not known if it will be launched in other markets including the United States.
