Plex is testing integration with the Apple TV app

Plex real-time media and hosting platform has begun to test integration with the Apple TV app. Once fully developed, this feature will allow users to find Plex content through the TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV devices.

TV apps have many uses, one of them serving as the content hub for other streaming apps.

The Apple TV app can display content from the following apps: Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, so you can easily track what you watch in an app and then go to each app to watch the content.

A Twitter user discovered testing Plex integration with the Apple TV app, as well as integrating the TV app into the latest beta version of TestFlight, a real-time media and hosting app from a popular platform.

The screenshot for this feature shows the prompt to connect Plex to the Apple TV app and displays the language on the screen to indicate that the participating app is sharing what you watch with Apple.

This means that any content you own in Plex will appear in the TV app and in the Previous Next List, among other things.

Transactions, searches, purchases, and device trust are all used to personalize your experience, improve others' experience, send you notifications, and prevent fraud.

The integration doesn't seem to be fully implemented yet as one Twitter user mentioned that the content they store via the Plex server doesn't always appear in the TV app.

Obviously, one possibility is that Plex is considering merging streaming service content only with TV apps, rather than merging content that has been stored by users through its servers.

Plex launched an ad-supported real-time streaming service in 2019 that offers users a variety of free TV shows and movies.

The service may plan to provide this content through the TV app only, rather than offering user hosted content through a single server.

A Plex representative said on Reddit: This feature is only available for Free On Demand Movies & TV Shows. We also like to incorporate personal media, but this is technically impossible for two reasons.

He added: To complete this work, we have provided Apple with a list of the content we can stream. As explained in our privacy policy, we do not know the users' content in their personal media library.
