OnePlus is looking for the third, cheapest phone in the upcoming OnePlus 9 series, the OnePlus 9R, and the excitement is just days away from the full availability of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.
The unresolved rumors confirm that OnePlus can announce another cheap phone alongside its new flagship phone.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said in an interview with News18: In terms of technology and design, the company hopes to go further than OnePlus North.
The company has been promoting OnePlus North as a mid-range phone sold in Europe and India, or as an inexpensive phone available in the US.
While some comments from Lau suggest that the OnePlus 9R may be closer to a high-end mid-range phone, it's not clear which part of OnePlus' performance goals the price range falls on.
Lau said: OnePlus 9R has 5G and has talked about gaming, smooth scrolling, and other display improvements related to this device.
He stated that the company hopes that this phone will be able to provide a fast and smooth experience of high performance. Lau indicated that this phone will become a member of the leading industrial design line at the same product level.
Like budget phones, the OnePlus 9R may include a screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz or faster. When it comes to gaming, this may be more of a marketing goal than a material one.
There are rumors that the third phone will feature a Snapdragon 865 processor last year, which goes against the tradition of integrating the latest chips into gaming phones.
For example, the ROG Phone 5 includes Snapdragon 888, up to 18GB of RAM and a 144Hz screen.
The rest of the interview does not include any other specific details as Lau did not talk about pricing or availability outside of India, but gave OnePlus' opinion on the 9R.
