| Twitter has stopped cropping photos in response to criticism |
Twitter has created a possible solution to the problem of cropping images and is to stop it.
Image preview is currently being tested, the company said. What you will see is the content received in the Tweet creation box and the full screen image viewing experience.
The image will appear on Twitter's timeline this way, just as the user is actually seeing it when composing a tweet.
The company announced in a tweet that the new feature is under testing: Tested immediately on Android and iOS: When you move an image, it will appear on the timeline, just as it appears in the author of the tweet.
Twitter also said it was testing 4K photos uploaded across Android and iOS as part of a larger effort to improve the way media is shared and viewed on the platform.
Additionally, with the new changes to the image preview, the algorithm's surprises are also reduced. For example, the company's auto-crop tool that came out last fall usually prefers the white face algorithm.
In many cases, photos shared on Twitter are automatically cropped using algorithms that rely on artificial intelligence. However, this approach raises questions about how the program prioritizes skin tone and other factors.
The company said at the time: The neural network used to crop the image had been tested for racial bias and the company claimed it had found nothing.
But she also admitted that she needs to do more analysis to avoid situations that might be biased.
After generating widespread controversy, the platform wrote, "It is clear that we have a lot more analysis to do and open up the source of work to others."
She explained that it relies less on automatic cropping, so the image you see in the author of the tweet usually looks the same as it is in the tweet.
Twitter's suggested solution appears to be to stop cropping images, at least during the testing phase.
When previewed in the compose window and viewed in the timeline, the Tweets that match the default aspect ratio are the same, but the Twitter Design Director said: The test contains images that are too large or too high, and will be cropped in the middle.
