Samsung is asking Galaxy Gear users to upgrade

Samsung is one of the first major smartphone manufacturers to enter the smartwatch field with the Galaxy Gear.

His first smartwatch didn't use Google's Android operating system, but a modified version of it to power the Galaxy Gear.

The Korean giant is expected to return to Android Wear OS instead of Tizen OS with the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Active.

This movement offers a wide range of uses for its smartwatches. However, the company will not be wearing any Tizen OS watches that are on Wear OS.

According to the company, some Galaxy Gear users will still have to migrate to Tizen OS if they want to access smartwatch apps.

The Galaxy Gear was launched in 2013 and is the only watch of its kind, so Samsung will continue to support smartwatches and their users eight years later.

After this period, Samsung continued to use the App Store version developed for the watch operating system.

However, Samsung will close this store next month. But he did not give in to the owners of smart watches.

Samsung showed a way to Galaxy Gear owners in 2014 when it was clear at the time that it wouldn't stick with the Android smartwatch operating system.

Around that time, an update was released for a new wearable platform based on Tizen, an operating system that Samsung smartwatches have been using for several years.

Obviously, not everyone took advantage of this opportunity at the time. But Samsung is now trying to overlay it.

The Galaxy Store update informs smartwatch owners that the Galaxy Store will be closing for Galaxy Gear devices on August 5, 2021.

If the smartwatch continues to work, the user will not be able to install or reinstall the application.

If you want to access the app after this date, you can switch to Tizen. But it is a one-way street, and there is no going back.

Additionally, not all Galaxy Gear apps are available through Tizen. But perhaps similar applications exist now.

And that's how long the company has successfully supported the smartwatch launched in 2013. However, the latest Tizen-based smartwatches may not be upgradable to the new Wear OS. This is due to hardware requirements or Google guidelines.
