According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, global shipments of smartwatches will increase by 47% annually to reach 18 million units during the second quarter of 2021.

The Apple smartwatch holds the number one spot with a global smartwatch market share of 52%, Samsung ranks second, and Garmin remains in third place.

“Shipments around the world are growing 47% annually, from 12.3 million units in the second quarter of 2020 to 18.1 million units in the second quarter of 2021,” said a senior analyst at Strategy Analytics.

Shipments around the world have increased the fastest since 2018. Growth is returning to pre-pandemic levels.

Selling fitness equipment online that supports personal healthcare continues to be very popular and is the main driver of the smartwatch boom.

The company estimates Apple's global shipments in the second quarter of 2021 at 9.5 million units. An increase of 46% from 6.5 million units in the second quarter of 2020.

Apple's global share is stable at around 52%. Apple still owns half the market and separates its competitors.

Apple Watch Series 6 is the most popular smartwatch model in the world. This is due to the slim design and simple operation on the small screen as well as the combination of more and more health and fitness applications.

The company also estimates that Samsung will ship 2 million units worldwide in the second quarter of 2021. Compared to 1.3 million units in the second quarter of 2020, the increase was 54% above average.

Samsung continues to do well in the North American, European and Korean markets.

The company estimates that Garmin will ship 1.5 million units worldwide in the second quarter of 2021. Compared to 1.2 million units in the second quarter of 2020, that's a slight increase of 25%.

As a result, Garmin's global share fell from 10% to 8% last year.

Garmin offers a large selection of watches such as the Forerunner 55 and Venu. But it faces increasing competition from rivals such as Samsung and Xiaomi in Asia and elsewhere.
