Earlier this month, a new PlayStation 5 model debuted in parts of Australia, Japan and the United States, with a new stand design and mysterious weight-loss features.

YouTuber Austin Evans managed to get a modified PlayStation 5 model.

Early analysis of the new model revealed that Sony had modified several internal components and criticized the decision to significantly reduce the size of the platform's cooling system.

From the new model's disassembly video, people know that the company replaced the coolant that helps cool the platform. Except for minor modifications to the radio network antennas. This may be in line with the plan for the new wireless module mentioned in a Sony document earlier this year.

The size of the new coolant is much smaller than the original, which compensates for the total weight loss of 300 grams. A heat sink is a device that removes heat from the processor, graphics card, and chipset so they can operate more efficiently and safely.

Without effective cooling, devices wear out over time and performance will be affected. It is unclear why Sony replaced the heat sink at the beginning of the platform life cycle.

The original platform releases a lot of heat when operating. Scalable NVMe SSDs require users to add more cooling using additional heat sinks.

However, a smaller heat sink does not necessarily mean that the new model will dissipate more heat than the original model. However, the video showed that as a result, the platform got hotter and the temperature rose by about 3-5 degrees from the back.

This could be due to manufacturing differences, which could mean the new model can dissipate heat more efficiently instead of running hotter components. Therefore, a more comprehensive test is needed to see if the new coolant affects performance.

Sony uses this cooler to keep the PS5 cool. The platform has an airflow heat pipe designed to provide the same performance as a steam room.

The heat sink, solid copper plate and aluminum diffuser take up a lot of space inside the PS5. It adds a lot to its global scale.

Interestingly enough, Sony has reduced this segment of the market. Hopefully, this is the first sign that the company is working hard on making a smaller PS5 model. This is considered the largest stadium in modern history.

The video stated that these changes made the PS5 deteriorate due to overheating. The original form uses the CFI-1XXX numbering form, while the modified form uses the new CFI-11XX form.

The updated PS5 model has been confirmed to have a new screw to attach the rig to its bracket, which can now be manually adjusted without a screwdriver.

When this review was published, Sony announced that it would no longer sell the PS5 version at a loss for $499, and it was reported last year that the company was working hard to shut down the PS5 due to workarounds.

The video also decodes the PS5 digital version. So we don't know if Sony changed the cooling unit in the version with optical drive as well.
