| Microsoft has a new Ocean Plastic mouse |
We've seen many Microsoft mice over the years, but the software giant has announced a new Ocean Plastic mouse that focuses more on recycling and durability than innovative wheel control or high DPI.
Ocean Plastic Mouse is known for its packaging made from 20% recyclable ocean plastic and 100% recyclable packaging.
In August 2020, Microsoft committed to zero-waste disposals by 2030 and ending single-use plastics in packaging by 2025.
The small box that comes with this mouse is made of recyclable wood and recyclable sugarcane fibres, and is a step into the future.
The company also mentioned a free email program that people can use to return old mouse supplies for recycling.
This plastic enclosure uses resin and recycled materials made from recycled plastic waste from seas and waterways.
This turns the plastic waste into particles and mixes it with other materials that make up the mouse's cap.
And for making resin for marine plastic rat shells. The software giant has teamed up with the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). It is a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.
Surprisingly, the petrochemical industry is responding to the shift to electric vehicles with a stronger focus on plastics.
Microsoft made a wireless mouse out of recycled marine plastic
The Ocean Plastic Mouse is available for pre-order starting today for $24.99. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy wireless technology with a range of up to 33 feet. The mouse also supports Swift Pair so you can connect it to your computer.
Like all of the Surface devices shown at the company's event, it will be available in the US on October 5th.
Most importantly, the company promises that a single replaceable or chargeable AA battery can provide up to 12 months of battery life.
Users can customize the three buttons via a downloadable software in the middle of the mouse and keyboard. However, anyone who has used the company's mouse in the past three years should be familiar with the technology and sensors of the scroll wheel.
