| The next plan of Facebook and Google is to take over the Internet |
When it comes to online storage, browsing, and even file processing, the word "cloud" is often used. The same applies to the website and the basis of any application or service. However, the cloud is not in the sky, it can be underground and it is also controlled by Google and Facebook.
Cloud here is a term that refers to a large number of servers connected to each other around the world. Both Facebook and Google own most of the cloud. As we know today, they make up a huge part of the internet.
A variety of servers and devices are known as data centers. Experts describe this situation because companies like Facebook and Google are building and expanding full-time data centers while increasing their control.
Hence, the cloud is a huge physical network as well as the backbone of the internet. Nothing flies in the sky here, but large swaths of buildings below or above the ground, which consume a lot of electricity and are connected to each other by massive connections across the ocean.
These connections allow data to be transferred at speeds of up to 400 Gbps. It is surrounded by several layers of extremely strong protection.
In general, owning a data center, on the one hand, is synonymous with owning a part of the Internet. On the other hand, having a data center also owns… the data itself. This data includes our images, the text content we have created, your recordings and my recordings, if applicable.
Google and Facebook control the Internet
Data center operations are generally invisible. Ownership of a distributed ocean Internet connection usually does not belong to any particular company, but it can only be token. Mainly because link owners charge a fee when data is transmitted through them.
For example, AT&T has a link equivalent to 230,000 km across the ocean, followed by China Telecom, followed by a Taiwanese company.
Since telecom companies are the main companies that connect the Internet with other networks, it is natural that they have a large number of advanced connections, but if we look at the list of most companies that have free connections, we see that Facebook is in the tenth place and Google is in the twelfth place.
This achievement is by no means the upper end of the two companies' ambitions, as 80% of the investments in new connections or cables come from each. Currently, Facebook has 99,399 kilometers of internet connections, while Google has 95,876 kilometers.
It seems that the workers decided to unite. In August last year, we announced our intention to build 12,000 kilometers of sea routes through Singapore, Japan, Guam, the Philippines, Taiwan and Indonesia.
Perhaps one of the largest projects ever, Facebook plans to build a 45,000-kilometre link by 2024 that will cross 33 countries, including countries in Africa and the Middle East.
