Google has fixed the fingerprint reader issue on the Pixel 6 phone

Google has released new updates for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices to address the fingerprint scanner issue. Although there are still a few weeks until December, the company released a surprise for these two phones in mid-November.

Details of the update were confirmed by Google's support page, indicating that the patch includes minor bug fixes and some performance improvements for the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones.

The fingerprint readers on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are generally difficult to use or slow to recognize fingerprints.

The company responded that the scanner's improved security algorithm could slow down performance or make it unreliable. Google has never said if the scanner's performance is related to hardware or software issues.

The first answer indicated that the scanner's security features would have to be slow in order to function normally.

But now that the company has released an update, the problem might be software related. In general, the results of the update are mixed.

It appears that some improvements are being made. But it still doesn't match other companies' fingerprint scanners.

While some people say that the update fixes the problem, others say the difference is there. But only a little. It's not clear if the fingerprint scanner update might be the last of its kind or if the company is considering another update in the future.

The problem could also be that Google chose to use a sub-screen scanner instead of ultrasound.

The search giant said it has started rolling out the SD1A.210817.037 update and will continue next week.

It's also worth noting that while the update is only 14.56MB, the company claims that it will take about 30 minutes to download and install, depending on how many apps you have.

If your device is running on a major carrier in the US or Japan, you can get the update in November.

You can see the full list of operators on Google. If your carrier is not listed, the update will arrive in December.
