LG announces a new screen that supports 16:18

LG has announced an all-new format called DualUp with a unique 16:18 aspect ratio for the display market it describes.

The company claims that DualUp gives you the same screen space as two 21.5-inch monitors and has a vertical split screen feature that allows users to see more content at a glance.

DualUp (model 28MQ780) has a pixel size of 2560 x 2880, a diagonal of 27.6 inches and a maximum brightness of 300 nits, which covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color space.

Connects to the company's Ergo bracket, which can be attached to most desks and tables to save space.

In addition to the productivity and creative possibilities this shape provides, the monitor has ergonomic advantages, according to LG, as it helps reduce lateral head movement, the main cause of neck pain.

And if you don't mind the idea of having multiple monitors in your workspace, this should make multitasking easier. As the marketing picture shows, it looks like a video editing dream.

The company has not announced the price of the DualUp. But this isn't the only new screen the company is offering. There's also a 32-inch UltraFine 4K monitor.

The aspect ratio of this screen is 16: 9. But the company uses the first black nano-IPS panel. She said this screen can produce true, accurate blacks.

UltraFine can be slightly brighter than the DualUp, with a peak 400 nits and 2000:1 contrast ratio compared to the more unconventional 1000:1 screens.

LG has also added an automatic calibration sensor to ensure accurate tones are displayed when editing photos, videos, or graphic designs.

The company's two new monitors include two HDMI ports. There is also a USB-C port for connecting the display to a computer and two USB-C ports for connecting the display to USB devices, but these are not Thunderbolt ports.

The display can be powered via USB to charge external devices such as laptops with a capacity of up to 96W.

The company announced that it will provide more detailed information on these two products during a virtual presentation at CES 2022 on January 4.

LG posted an ad ahead of the show. It features a removable battery-powered TV and a new speaker with a progressive center channel that improves speech intelligibility.
