BMW will launch an affordable i4 EV in the US next year

BMW is offering two different versions of the all-electric i4 sedan in the US, but the company will add a third, more affordable version starting next year.

BMW on Monday announced the 2023 i4 eDrive35, an electric vehicle that will start at $52,395 when it arrives in the United States in the first quarter of 2023, including a $995 destination fee.

As an entry-level model in the BMW i4 range, the eDrive35 has lower battery capacity and engine power than the other versions of the eDrive40 and M50.

BMW estimates the eDrive35 has a usable capacity of 66 kWh and an EPA range of about 260 miles. By comparison, you can expect about 271 miles for the M50 and 301 miles for the eDrive40.

DC Fast Charging charges the eDrive35 battery from 10% to 80% in about half an hour.

With a rear-mounted single-shaft engine, the eDrive35 will also produce less power than the other versions, with 281 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Inside, the eDrive35 has the same dashboard module as the eDrive40. Expect a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 14.9-inch instrument panel behind a single curved glass surface.

It should also have all the same safety features, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
