Report: Apple is working on a special chip for iPhone communications

A new report from Bloomberg News, published Monday, claims that Apple is working on new proprietary chips that will power some important communication functions on its devices.

The company will develop its own chips to replace Broadcom's currently used Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips and plans to integrate the chips into its devices by 2025.

Bloomberg also mentioned new information in its report about Apple's efforts to develop its own cellular modem chips to replace Qualcomm's chips.

The report says Apple will launch its own modem chips by late 2024 or early 2025, after Qualcomm finally said in its Q4 2022 earnings report that it expects to account for the "vast majority" of orders for 4G modem chips. . Fifth 5G for iPhone in 2023.

It is believed that Apple started using its modem in one product and then rolled it out to other devices over the course of about three years.

It is believed that if Apple continues to produce these special chips, it will be because the company's increasing number of chips, such as B. A series processing chips, will have a great impact on the company's hardware.

However, developing cellular modem chips has proven difficult. The company bought most of the smartphone modem business from Intel in 2019, and Nikkei reported in 2021 that Apple plans to use its own 5G modems from 2023, but not Qualcomm. Apple will miss its goal and push it back to 2024 at the earliest.

It should be noted that Apple is facing problems with some iPhones, and Apple's senior supply chain analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, said that the company will not launch a new version of the iPhone SE in 2024, to sell its low-quality phones.
