Over 1 Million Anker Power Banks Recalled in the US Due to Fire Risks; Free Replacements Offered

LOS ANGELES—Anker Innovations has issued a voluntary recall of more than 1 million portable power banks in the United States after reports of overheating units posing fire and severe burn hazards. The recall, coordinated with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects 16 models sold nationwide between January 2022 and March 2025.

The impacted power banks—marketed under Anker’s popular "PowerCore" and "Nebula" lines—were sold exclusively via Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Anker’s official website. According to the CPSC’s official recall notice, 127 incidents of overheating have been documented, including 15 cases involving minor burns and 3 reports of property damage from fires. One incident resulted in a rug igniting in a New York apartment, though no life-threatening injuries occurred.

Affected models include:

  • PowerCore 20K (A1366)
  • Nebula 10K (A1328)
  • PowerCore Slim 10K (A1361)
  • (Full list available in the CPSC notice)

"Safety is our priority," said Anker CEO Steven Yang in a statement. "We urge customers to immediately discontinue use of these units and participate in our free replacement program."

What Consumers Should Do

  1. Check your device: Locate the model number on the back of the power bank.
  2. Stop using it and unplug if charging.
  3. Request a replacement: Visit Anker’s recall portal (anker.com/support/recall) or call (888) 555-0198.
  4. Recycle the old unit: Anker provides prepaid shipping labels.

The recalled power banks were top-sellers on Amazon, ranking #1–3 in "portable chargers" during 2023–2024. Customers who purchased units on Amazon can reference this product page to cross-check model details.

Why the Recall Matters

Lithium-ion battery flaws, while rare, can escalate quickly. The CPSC warns that damaged circuits in these Anker units may cause "thermal runaway," leading to explosions or fires—especially when left charging unattended.

No incidents have been reported since April 2025, when Anker halted sales. Replacement devices (with redesigned circuitry) will ship by July 1.
