Battlefield 6 Open Beta Introduces Revolutionary "Open or Closed" Weapon Customization

The hype for Battlefield 6 just leveled up. EA DICE confirmed today that its upcoming open beta—running November 3-9—will feature a groundbreaking customization option: players can toggle between "open" or "closed" weapon configurations mid-match, fundamentally altering how firefights unfold.

For the first time in the franchise, your loadout won’t be locked at spawn. Aggressive players can switch to "open" configurations for maximum lethality—think expanded magazines, high-zoom scopes, and reduced recoil at the cost of mobility. Defensive strategists, meanwhile, can opt for "closed" setups: streamlined weapons with faster sprint-to-aim speed, quieter operation, and enhanced concealment.

Creative director Lars Gustavsson called the system a "tactical revolution," emphasizing its impact on squad dynamics:

"This isn’t just about attachments—it’s about adapting your weapon’s identity to the battle. Holding a chokepoint? Go ‘closed’ to ambush silently. Pushing an objective? Flip ‘open’ and unleash hell. It rewards intuition."

The beta’s Sinai Desert map (a reimagined BF1 classic) will serve as the testing ground. Early access begins November 1 for pre-orders, with all platforms joining on the 3rd.

Curious how it looks in action? DICE dropped a teaser showcasing the mechanic:

Reactions from playtesters have been divisive. Reddit user /u/StrikeEagle_76 praised the flexibility: "Switching my LMG to ‘closed’ while flanking changed everything—felt like a spec-ops ghost." Others worry about balance; pro player Emily "Riptide" Park tweeted: "Hope they tweak the ‘open’ sniper ADS speeds. Feels like an aimbot."

With 128-player battles confirmed and dynamic sandstorms returning, Battlefield 6’s beta may well decide if this gamble pays off. As Gustavsson put it: "This is where we learn what the battlefield truly wants."
