All Aboard! Seiko Unveils Stunning Limited Edition Watch Merging Evangelion and the Shinkansen

In a move that’s set to thrill anime fans and watch collectors alike, Seiko has officially opened orders for a spectacular new limited edition timepiece. This latest release serves as a high-speed crossover, brilliantly blending two iconic Japanese properties: the fiery Evangelion Unit-02 and the sleek 500 Type EVA Shinkansen bullet train.

A highly limited run of just 5,000 units, this Made-in-Japan chronograph is now available for pre-order through select retailers, with a price point of $550. While the official release window is set for April 2026, some sellers are noting that shipments could arrive earlier, depending on Seiko's production schedule.

A Design Forged on the Tracks

While Seiko is no stranger to Evangelion collaborations, this model takes a different route. Instead of focusing solely on the biomechanical Eva unit, the watch draws its direct inspiration from the real-world 500 Type EVA-02 Shinkansen. This train, which famously ran on the Sanyō Shinkansen line as part of an Evangelion anniversary project, lends its unforgettable livery to the timepiece.

The color scheme is translated almost one-to-one. The case features vibrant red outer sections, a stark black center, and polished metallic accents that mimic the train's cabin detailing. A particularly clever touch is at the 1 o'clock position, where the marker replicates the circular window frame from the EVA-02-themed Shinkansen.

A Dial Packed with Personality

The watch face is undeniably busy, a characteristic homage to its mecha and railway origins. The sub-registers are rendered in grey with orange indicators, perfectly matching the cockpit palette of Asuka's EVA-02. A central red seconds hand provides a sharp, dynamic contrast against the darker mid-dial.

True to Seiko's form, the luminous hands and markers carry a green tint that glows brightly in low light. Preview images show this lume resting against a bold red chapter ring, ensuring legibility and style. Completing the sporty look is a functional stainless steel tachymeter bezel.

Built for Reliability

The case specifications are standard yet robust for Seiko's quartz chronograph line. It features a stainless steel construction, 10-bar (100-meter) water resistance, and a curved Hardlex crystal. With dimensions of 47 × 39.8 × 12.8 mm, it wears as a substantial, modern sports watch.

Powering the watch is a reliable Seiko quartz movement, rated for an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. This places it in line with Seiko's mainstream Japan-made quartz modules, prioritizing longevity and hassle-free use. The matching stainless steel bracelet completes the look, fitting the established style of Seiko's previous Shinkalion collaborations.

Thematic Packaging for the Collector

Seiko has ensured the unboxing experience is just as themed as the watch itself. The presentation box is a vibrant red, featuring full EVA-02 artwork, a graphic of the 500 Type EVA-02 train, and special anniversary badges celebrating Evangelion's 30th year and Shinkalion's 10th anniversary.

This limited edition Seiko is a must-have for any fan of the series or Japanese pop culture. With only 5,000 pieces being made, it's expected to be a quick sell-out.
