Motorola Edge 70 Ultra Leak Confirms Powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Heart

The rumor mill is churning, and a clear picture of Motorola's next flagship killer is beginning to emerge. Fresh leaks have now seemingly confirmed the powerhouse processor that will sit at the core of the highly anticipated Motorola Edge 70 Ultra, setting the stage for a major smartphone showdown early next year.

Following an initial spotting on the Geekbench benchmarking platform earlier this month, the mystery surrounding the device's chipset has been put to rest. According to a new leak from the highly reliable Evan Blass, the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra—codenamed "Urus"—will be powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor.

This confirmation aligns the stars for what could be one of the most powerful Android devices of 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, officially unveiled by Qualcomm just a few days ago, promises a significant leap in performance and efficiency, and Motorola appears to be one of the first major players to integrate it into a flagship phone.

The revelation came via a social media post from Blass, which has since fueled excitement across the tech community.

Beyond the Processor: A Glimpse at the Display and Camera

This processor confirmation wasn't the only nugget of information to surface. The leak from Blass corroborates an earlier report from another trusted source, @ZionsAnvin on X, who provided additional key details about the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra's specs.

According to the leak, the smartphone will feature a high-quality OLED display with a sharp 1.5K resolution. This resolution strikes an excellent balance between crystal-clear detail and battery efficiency, a choice we've seen in other recent premium phones.

Perhaps even more exciting for photography enthusiasts is the mention of a periscope telephoto camera. This type of lens system allows for much higher optical zoom levels without adding significant bulk to the phone's body, a feature that has become a hallmark of true flagship devices. While the rest of the camera specs and other features remain under wraps for now, we can reasonably expect it to build upon the legacy of its predecessors with super-fast wired and wireless charging capabilities.

A Flagship on a Biennial Schedule

The anticipation for the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra is particularly high due to the company's unique release pattern for its "Ultra" model. Motorola has adhered to a biennial (every two years) cycle for this top-tier device.

The last model was the well-received 2024 Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, which is currently available on Amazon.de. Before that, the Edge 30 Ultra debuted in 2022. This pattern explains why there was no Edge 40 Ultra or an Edge 60 Ultra, making the Edge 70 Ultra the direct successor to the two-year-old Edge 50 Ultra.

When Can We Expect the Launch?

As for when we'll get an official look, Motorola has yet to announce a launch date. However, we can make an educated guess based on the competition. OnePlus has already claimed that its OnePlus 15R will be the "world's first" smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, with a launch event set for December 17.

Given this timeline, it's almost certain that the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra will make its debut after that date, likely positioning it for a global release in the first quarter of 2025. With its top-tier chipset, premium display, and advanced camera system, the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra is shaping up to be a formidable contender in the next generation of flagship smartphones.
