Thunderobot Fires First Shot in the Mini-PC Wars: New Mix G2 Packs an RTX 5090, Outmuscles ASUS ROG NUC

The battle for the ultimate small-form-factor (SFF) gaming PC is heating up, and a new challenger has just entered the arena with what can only be described as a miniature powerhouse. Thunderobot, a brand rapidly gaining traction among performance enthusiasts, has officially unveiled the Mix G2, a new mini-PC that takes direct aim at the recently announced ASUS ROG NUC (2025).

While ASUS set a high bar with its ROG NUC, offering configurations up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and a mobile Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 (currently found for around $3,199 on Amazon), Thunderobot has decided to one-up the competition in the most dramatic way possible: by offering a top-tier model featuring the yet-to-be-released GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU.

A Clear Performance Play

ASUS's ROG NUC (2025) lineup is certainly no slouch. With options spanning the Core Ultra 7 255HX paired with an RTX 5060 or 5070, and the flagship Intel/RTX 5080 combo, it covers a wide spectrum of gaming needs. For AMD fans, the ROG GR70 provides an alternative path. Thunderobot, however, is placing a singular bet on raw graphical power.

By opting to equip the Mix G2 with the RTX 5090, Thunderobot claims a staggering 17% in-game performance boost over the most powerful ROG NUC configuration available. This is a significant generational leap that will undoubtedly catch the attention of gamers and creators who demand the absolute best performance in a compact footprint.

This performance doesn't come without a slight physical trade-off, however. To accommodate the higher-tier components and their cooling needs, the Mix G2 is a fair bit larger than the ASUS alternative. Measuring in at 332 x 212 x 45 mm, it's taller and deeper than the ROG NUC's (2025) 282 x 188 x 57 mm frame. Despite the larger size, it remains a remarkably compact 3.2-litre system, a testament to modern engineering.

Early leaks and specifications for the device have been generating significant buzz on tech forums and social media, with many eagerly awaiting independent benchmarks. A post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @realVictor_M, which you can see here, was one of the first to break the news and specs, sending the community into a frenzy.

Engineered for Power and Thermals

Packing a top-end GPU into a small case is one thing; keeping it cool and running at peak performance is another. Thunderobot seems to have taken this challenge seriously. The Mix G2 employs a robust cooling solution comprising two fans and a large, custom heatsink. This setup is designed to deliver up to 175 W of power to the GPU alone, with a total system power (TSP) of 295 W.

This aggressive power allocation is key to unlocking the full potential of the RTX 50-series mobile GPUs, suggesting that the Mix G2 won't be heavily power-limited like some other mini-PCs, allowing for sustained performance during long gaming sessions.

Connectivity is equally future-proof. The Mix G2 is loaded with I/O ports on both the front and rear, but the crown jewel is the inclusion of a single Thunderbolt 5 port. This ensures massive bandwidth for external displays and storage. Rounding out the connectivity are Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, and a Gigabit LAN port for wired networking. A detailed look at the port selection and internal layout was provided in a recent report by ITHome, which you can find here.

Pricing, Configurations, and The Big Question

The most compelling part of the Thunderobot Mix G2 announcement might be its aggressive pricing structure, which undercuts the competition while offering more power.

The base model, starting at CNY 14,999 (approximately $2,108), is already well-equipped with a Core Ultra 7 255HX, an RTX 5070 Ti GPU, 32 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB SSD. For comparison, you can check the current pricing for the ASUS alternative with an RTX 5060 on Amazon.

Stepping up to the Core Ultra 9 275HX and an RTX 5080 will set you back CNY 18,999 (~$2,670), while the flagship RTX 5090 model, which also doubles the RAM to 64 GB, commands a price of CNY 24,999 (~$3,513).

The Mix G2 is set to launch in China on November 20, and pre-orders are likely to open soon on major Chinese e-commerce platforms. The official product page is already live on JD.com for those looking to get a closer look at the design and specs, which you can view here.

The million-dollar question, however, remains: Will the Thunderobot Mix G2 be available internationally? As of now, Thunderobot has not announced any plans for a global launch. For gamers outside of China, the ASUS ROG NUC (2025) remains the most powerful, readily available option. But the arrival of the Mix G2 signals a thrilling new chapter in the mini-PC space, proving that when it comes to performance, the biggest surprises can sometimes come in the smallest packages.
