Amazfit’s Active 3 Premium is receiving its first update

Just weeks after its market debut, the new Amazfit Active 3 Premium smartwatch is receiving its first major software overhaul. Early adopters of the running-focused wearable are reporting the availability of firmware version 3.7.0.6, a substantial update that transforms the device into a serious contender for endurance athletes.

The update arrives as a pleasant surprise for users who unboxed the device recently. According to reports on Reddit, the update was offered as an out-of-the-box installation, immediately elevating the watch's capabilities beyond its initial launch specs.

A Leap in Performance Tracking: Lactate Threshold Arrives

The headline feature of firmware version 3.7.0.6 is the introduction of lactate threshold estimation. This marks a significant milestone for Amazfit, as the Active 3 Premium becomes the first device from the brand to offer this advanced physiological metric.

For runners and cyclists, lactate threshold represents the exercise intensity at which lactate starts to accumulate in the blood faster than it can be removed. It is a critical marker for predicting endurance performance and setting optimal training paces.

“‼️ And these are the first Amazfit watches with Lactate Threshold support,” one excited user noted on the r/amazfit subreddit. “Until recently, only Garmin devices could automatically analyze and estimate lactate threshold. Now Amazfit has joined that group 💪🏼.”

Alongside lactate threshold, the update adds a suite of other advanced running metrics, including:

  • Running Power: Measures the actual effort you're putting into your run in watts.
  • Ground Contact Time: Analyzes how long your foot stays on the ground with each stride.

Beyond Running: New Tools for Every Athlete

The software update doesn’t stop at performance analytics. Amazfit has also rolled out quality-of-life features that users of the T-Rex 3 will recognize:

  • Training Library & Gear Management: Users can now log their workouts in a dedicated library and, crucially, track the mileage of their gear—such as running shoes and bike pedals—directly from the watch. This helps athletes know exactly when it's time to replace worn-out equipment.
  • On-Wrist Podcasts: The Active 3 Premium now supports standalone podcast playback, a feature added to the rugged T-Rex 3 back in January 2026. This allows users to leave their phones behind and listen directly from the watch via Bluetooth headphones.

How to Get the Update

The new firmware is rolling out to users now. If you own an Amazfit Active 3 Premium, currently available for €169.90 at Amazon Germany via this link, you can install it through the companion Zepp app.

Simply navigate to Profile > Amazfit Active 3 > System Update to check for and download version 3.7.0.6.

First Look: A New Challenger Emerges?

By adding lactate threshold—a feature previously exclusive to higher-end devices from competitors—Amazfit is signaling its intent to compete in the premium running watch segment. It remains unclear if or when this metric will trickle down to other models in the Amazfit lineup, but for now, it gives the Active 3 Premium a unique selling point in its price bracket.
