Philips Hue App Update 5.63.0 Lets You Finally Disable the AI Assistant, Plus Bug Fixes

Philips Hue’s app has been updated to v.5.63

Signify has begun rolling out the Philips Hue app version 5.63.0 for both iOS and Android devices. The update arrives just a couple of weeks after the previous 5.62.0 release, which landed in early March 2026.

While the official release notes are characteristically brief—citing only “various bug fixes and stability improvements”—a deeper look reveals a significant quality-of-life change for users who prefer a cleaner interface. According to HueBlog, version 5.63.0 introduces the ability to completely remove the Hue AI Assistant from the app’s home screen.

A Quick Recap: What Came in Version 5.62.0

The previous update, version 5.62.0, laid the groundwork for better control over gradient lighting. That release introduced a new tool that allows users to adjust the orientation of Gradient lights, such as the popular Philips Hue Gradient Lightstrip Ambiance.

If you have been looking to upgrade your entertainment area or add dynamic backlighting to your TV setup, you can check current pricing for the Gradient Lightstrip Ambiance here.

What’s New in Version 5.63.0: Burying the AI Assistant

When Philips Hue introduced its AI Assistant, the feature was designed to help users generate custom dynamic lighting effects using natural language voice or text prompts. Initially, the tool was limited to English speakers, but with this latest update, support has quietly expanded to include Spanish, German, and Dutch.

However, not every user welcomed the persistent presence of the assistant icon. Typically, the AI Assistant is accessed via a floating button located in the bottom right corner of the home screen. For those who found the icon intrusive or simply prefer not to use the AI features, version 5.63.0 finally offers a way to turn it off.

How to Disable the Floating AI Assistant

To declutter your interface, navigate to the app’s settings:

  1. Open the Philips Hue app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap on App preferences.
  4. Select Floating search button.

Inside this menu, you can toggle off the Floating AI Assistant. Notably, this settings page also allows you to remove other interface elements you might not use, including the Hue shop shortcut and the Home switch.

How to Get the Update

The latest version is available for download now. Users can update their existing installation or download the app fresh from the respective stores:

Analysis: A Win for User Customization

The ability to disable the AI Assistant reflects a growing trend in smart home app design: giving users control over the interface itself. While the AI tool offers a novel way to generate scenes (especially now with expanded language support), forcing a persistent button on the main screen was a point of friction for many long-time users.

By moving this toggle into the App preferences—alongside shortcuts for the shop and Home switch—Signify is allowing users to tailor the app to their specific habits. If you rely on the AI for quick scene creation, you can leave it on. If you prefer the classic layout, you can now remove it entirely.

As always, the 5.63.0 update is rolling out gradually across regions, so if you don’t see it in your store immediately, it should appear within the next few days.
