If you thought DJI was taking a breather after last week’s product blitz, think again. The Shenzhen-based drone and camera giant is having one of its most frenetic months in recent memory — and that’s saying something for a company that once released three drones in a single morning.
Last week, DJI quietly replaced the beloved Osmo Pocket 3 with the Osmo Pocket 4 everywhere except the United States. Then, almost as if someone tripped over a warehouse shelf, the Mic Mini 2, Osmo Mobile 8P, and two mysterious Lito drones followed in rapid succession. Before anyone could catch their breath, DJI confirmed the existence of an even more powerful variant: the Osmo Pocket 4P.
For now, the company has only officially teased its first-ever “Pro” Osmo Pocket on Chinese social media. But here’s where it gets interesting: reliable whispers suggest the Pocket 4P might land in the US under a completely different brand name. Whether that’s a licensing play, a regulatory workaround, or just DJI being DJI remains unclear. But one thing is certain — this is not a typical product launch cycle.
What We Know About the Osmo Pocket 4P So Far
DJI is famously tight-lipped about unreleased hardware, and the Osmo Pocket 4P is no exception. No specific launch date has been announced, and even the usual leak ecosystem has gone oddly quiet on timing. Creators are comparing the Osmo Pocket 4P not just against the new non-Pro Osmo Pocket 4, but also against the still-excellent Osmo Pocket 3 (currently $499 on Amazon). In some close-ups, eagle-eyed viewers have even spotted a Mini 5 Pro drone sitting on a table, suggesting DJI might be prepping an aerial companion to its ground-based gimbal camera.
The biggest selling point? A 1-inch primary camera paired with a telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom. That’s a first for the Osmo Pocket line, which has historically relied on digital zoom or single fixed lenses. For vloggers, travel filmmakers, and even semi-pro shooters, that telephoto capability could be a game-changer — especially in a body that fits in a jeans coin pocket.
Why the US Might Get a Different Name
The phrase “Pro” has always carried weight in DJI’s ecosystem. The Mavic 3 Pro, Ronin 4D, and Air 3 all use the badge to signal better sensors, more lenses, or advanced software. So why would DJI tease the Osmo Pocket 4P in China but potentially rebrand it for the US?
There are a few theories:
- Trademark or naming conflicts – Another company might already own “Pocket 4 Pro” or similar in North America.

In these shots, you can see side-by-side comparisons of low-light performance, stabilization, and zoom reach. The Pocket 4P appears to have a slightly larger lens housing than the standard Pocket 4 — likely to accommodate that telephoto element. There’s also a new gimbal lock mechanism and what looks like a redesigned battery grip.
If you’re considering the current Osmo Pocket 3 while it’s still widely available, you might want to hold off. The improvements from the 3 to the 4 are incremental (better tracking, slightly faster autofocus), but the jump to the 4P with 3x optical zoom is substantial. And for anyone who has already pre-ordered the non-Pro Pocket 4 outside the US, the arrival of a Pro version so soon must sting a little.
Should You Wait for the Osmo Pocket 4P?
That depends on your needs and your location.
- If you’re in China – The 4P is all but confirmed. Expect an official announcement within weeks.
- If you’re in the US – The situation is murkier. You might see a rebranded device, or you might have to import.
- If you own a Pocket 3 – Unless you absolutely need optical zoom, the 3 remains a fantastic camera. But if you’re a vlogger who shoots subjects at a distance (think: travel, wildlife, events), the telephoto lens alone is worth the upgrade.
One thing is clear: DJI is not done shaking up the handheld gimbal market. The Osmo Pocket series has gone from a niche curiosity to a genuine alternative for content creators who don’t want to lug around a full mirrorless rig. Adding a telephoto lens turns it into a much more versatile tool — one that could even challenge entry-level smartphones with multiple cameras.
What About the Mini 5 Pro Drone?
The surprise appearance of a Mini 5 Pro in the leaked images is worth a separate mention. DJI’s Mini series has been a runaway success — lightweight, sub-250g, and packed with features. The Mini 4 Pro (current model) already offers omnidirectional obstacle sensing and 4K/60fps HDR video. A Mini 5 Pro might bring better battery life, a higher-bitrate codec, or even a small telephoto camera of its own.
If DJI is already teasing the Mini 5 Pro in influencer materials, we could see an official reveal alongside the Osmo Pocket 4P. Two Pro products, one event? That would be very DJI.
The Bottom Line
DJI’s unusually busy month is far from over. Between the Osmo Pocket 4, Pocket 4P, Mic Mini 2, Osmo Mobile 8P, and now hints of a Mini 5 Pro drone, the company is flooding the zone. For consumers, that’s great news — more choice, faster innovation, and more downward pressure on older-model prices.
