But today, the buy buttons are live, signaling a fresh restock of a watch that has sparked a surprising amount of debate among collectors.
A Surprise Hit from the East
The journey of the F-91WF to the US market has been a slow burn. While the standard resin F-91W is a staple in almost every department store, the fabric-strap variant (the "F" in the model name) took its time crossing the Pacific. It first hit shelves in parts of Asia earlier this summer before finally making its US debut in early September.
The demand has been unexpectedly high. Usually, a cosmetic update to a budget watch doesn't cause a frenzy, but the F-91WF is different. Within days of the US launch, stock evaporated. Whether this was due to limited initial supply or a genuine surge in hype, Casio hasn't said a word. They haven't announced a limited edition run, nor have they commented on the sell-through rates. It appears this is simply a case of a beloved design getting a modern, sustainable twist that everyone wants to get their hands on.

The Great Strap Debate
While the restock is good news, it doesn't silence the elephant in the room: the price. At $45.95, the F-91WF costs roughly double the price of a standard F-91W.
The only difference between the two watches is the strap. Gone is the classic resin band, replaced by a woven fabric strap made from recycled PET. Casio touts the new band as scratch- and stain-resistant, and it fits wrists ranging from 145 to 215 mm.
However, the value proposition has divided the community. Purists and collectors have pointed out that you can buy a standard F-91W for around $22 and slap a cheap NATO or fabric strap on it for a few extra dollars, achieving a nearly identical look. This is a modification enthusiasts have been doing for years. Despite this logic, the allure of an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) fabric strap has proven too strong to resist, leading to the current stock shortages.
The Specs Remain Classic
If you manage to snag one during this restock window, you are getting the same legendary internals that have made the F-91W a cultural icon. The case measures 38.2 by 35.2 by 8.5 millimeters and weighs in at a featherlight 21 grams—identical to the resin version.
It runs on a CR2016 cell rated for approximately seven years of battery life. The module features the standard suite of tools: a 1/100-second stopwatch with split timing, a daily alarm, an hourly chime, an auto calendar, and the choice between 12- and 24-hour time formats. The display is illuminated by the dim green LED backlight that has become synonymous with the "W" series. Accuracy is quoted at plus or minus 30 seconds a month.
