Valve still hasn’t revealed the price or release date for the Steam Frame, but the company appears to be preparing for launch behind the scenes. Previous rumors and leaks suggested that reviews of the upcoming VR headset were already underway, and now it looks like one of them accidentally went live ahead of embargo.
A complete Steam Frame review was briefly published on ShortCircuit, the secondary YouTube channel owned by Linus Media Group. The video had a runtime of 17 minutes and 26 seconds and was available for a short period before being taken down. However, it stayed online long enough for copies to be made, and those clips are now being shared across social media.
Steam Frame review leaks online
The leaked review gives us our first proper in-depth look at Valve’s upcoming headset. It shows what’s included in the box, takes a closer look at the controllers, and walks through the first-time setup process. It also covers display quality, eye tracking, ports, and several other features.
The video reportedly includes a quick fit test and a range test as well. Interestingly, it confirms that the Steam Frame controllers will ship with batteries. That makes them different from the Valve Index controllers, which feature built-in rechargeable batteries.

While the leaked review does not reveal the price of the Steam Frame itself, it does provide some pricing information. According to the video, the Ergonomics Accessories Kit will cost $60 and will be sold separately.
The kit includes an additional strap for the headset as well as straps for the controllers. At $60, however, the kit does seem a little expensive for what’s included, and something closer to $30 would have been more reasonable.
Steam Frame launch appears imminent
That said, the Steam Frame launch appears closer than ever. Valve recently updated multiple Steam Frame packages in the Steam backend and also released the stable SteamVR 2.17 update. An insider previously suggested that the VR headset could arrive on September 14, so we’ll know soon enough if that was accurate.
For now, Valve remains officially silent on the Steam Frame’s price and release date. But between the backend updates, the SteamVR release, and this leaked review, it certainly feels like an official announcement could be just around the corner. If the September 14 rumor turns out to be true, VR fans may not have much longer to wait.
