| Garmin’s CIRQA Smart Band |
Garmin has begun pushing a fresh software update to its screenless CIRQA Smart Band, bringing a handful of new features and a long list of bug fixes to the wearable. Software version 4.20 follows the 3.20 release from early September 2026 and is now rolling out to users in stages.
According to a post on the Garmin Forums, the update has already reached around 20% of CIRQA Smart Band owners. Users can grab it through Garmin Express or the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
What's New in Version 4.20
The headline addition is Run/Walk detection for the Trail Run activity, which should make it easier for trail runners to track their intervals without manually logging walk breaks. Garmin has also added the ability to calibrate distance for Treadmill Run, Indoor Rowing, and Indoor Cycling activities before saving them to the device—a welcome tweak for anyone who trains indoors and wants more accurate data.
Heart rate now appears on the Live Activity screen before you start recording in the app, giving users a quick preview of their current pulse. Meanwhile, stress alerts will no longer pop up while Auto Activity Detection is recording, which should cut down on unnecessary interruptions during workouts.
Another practical improvement: the band can now vibrate for incoming calls and smart notifications. Previously, users had no way to receive haptic alerts for calls or messages, so this brings the CIRQA more in line with other fitness trackers on the market.
Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements
Garmin hasn't just added features—it's also cleaned up several annoying issues. The release notes confirm fixes for:
- Bedtime approaching notifications occasionally failing to trigger
- The inability to edit reps mid-workout
- Recorded activity time not aligning with the phone's time
- Pinned activities changing to Timed Activity after switching the phone language
Garmin also says it has improved overall system stability, and Mobile Translations have been bumped to version 1.60.
Rollout Details
As with most Garmin updates, version 4.20 is being distributed gradually rather than all at once. If you don't see it immediately, it's worth checking Garmin Express or the Connect Mobile app over the coming days. The full release notes and discussion are available on the Garmin Forum thread, while additional coverage of the update can be found in Notebookcheck's report.
For CIRQA Smart Band owners, 4.20 is a solid maintenance release that addresses several pain points while adding a few genuinely useful features. If you've been frustrated by missed bedtime reminders or the inability to tweak reps during a session, this update should finally sort those out.
