New York-based Priority Bicycles has electrified its popular Sauce platform, and the result is a fat-tired, belt-driven e-bike built to handle everything from the daily commute to weekend trail duty.
Priority Bicycles has officially launched the E-Sauce, an electrified version of its well-loved Sauce model. The new bike pairs a punchy 750W rear hub motor with a substantial 720Wh battery, fat knobby tires, and a maintenance-free Gates Carbon Drive belt — a combination the company says makes it equally at home on city streets and off-road trails.
According to Notebookcheck, Priority is claiming up to 60 miles (96 km) of range on a single charge, though the brand's own product page is a little more conservative, quoting a real-world figure of between 20 and 60 miles depending on assist level, terrain, rider weight, throttle use, and speed.
Power and Performance
The E-Sauce ships as a Class 2 e-bike with a 20 mph (32 km/h) speed limit and a handlebar-mounted throttle, but riders can bump it up to Class 3 settings for a 28 mph (45 km/h) top speed with pedal assist — local laws permitting.
What sets the E-Sauce apart from much of the competition is its dual torque-and-cadence sensing system. Most e-bikes rely on one or the other, but Priority says combining both delivers natural-feeling power below 20 mph and effortless assistance above it.
The 720Wh battery is integrated into the down tube and remains removable, with a charging port accessible whether the pack is mounted or off the bike.
Built for the Rough Stuff
The frame is constructed from 6061 aluminum and tips the scales at around 59 lbs (26.7 kg), with a maximum combined payload of 300 lbs (136 kg) covering rider, bike, and cargo. Up front, an SR Suntour XCM 32 fork offers 100mm of travel, while stopping duties fall to 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear.
Rolling stock consists of WTB Intersector 27.5 x 2.4" knobby tires, and Priority notes that riders can fit tires up to 2.6" wide if they skip fenders.
Low-Maintenance Drivetrain
Like the original Sauce, the E-Sauce runs a single-speed drivetrain — but here it's paired with a Gates Carbon Drive belt instead of a chain. That means no lubrication, no rust, and no day-to-day upkeep, with Priority claiming the belt lasts two to three times longer than a standard chain. Riders who want to tweak their gearing can swap sprockets, though the stock setup delivers 76.5 gear inches.
Practical Touches
Priority has clearly thought about everyday usability. The E-Sauce features IPX5-rated LED lighting with a handlebar-mounted front light and a seatpost-integrated rear light, plus a backlit display showing speed, trip distance, odometer, and five assist modes.
It's also the first bike to use Priority's new Headway cargo mount — a front rack system that attaches directly to the head tube independent of the steering, so loading up doesn't weigh down the bars. The mount supports up to 55 lbs up front, and standard rear rack mounts allow for MIK-compatible accessories.
Safety-wise, the E-Sauce is certified to both UL 2271 (battery system) and UL 2849 (full e-bike drive system) standards.
Pricing and Availability
The Priority E-Sauce is priced at $2,199 and is available in two size options — Small/Medium and Medium/Large — with sizing based on rider inseam. Interested buyers can order directly from Priority's official website, though the company notes the bike ships in February 2027.
For riders after a low-maintenance, go-anywhere e-bike that doesn't demand constant chain care, the E-Sauce looks like a compelling — and genuinely fun — option.
