Xiaomi has brought its latest budget-friendly 5G phone to India. The Redmi 17C 5G has officially arrived in the Indian market after making its debut in Singapore back in August. It joins the Redmi 17, which is currently listed at around $239 on Amazon, in Xiaomi’s growing Redmi lineup.
Although the Redmi 17 and Redmi 17C 5G differ in terms of processor and battery capacity, both devices reportedly share the same display specifications. That makes the new Redmi 17C 5G a tempting option for buyers who want a large screen and long battery life without spending too much.
Big 6.9-inch display and capable cameras
The Redmi 17C 5G features a large 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel with a 1600 x 720 pixel resolution. It supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and offers a peak brightness of 660 nits. Xiaomi has also included DC dimming support, while the screen covers 83% of the NTSC color gamut.
For photography, the phone comes with a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. It is paired with a basic auxiliary lens, which is typical for this price segment. On the front, there’s an 8MP selfie shooter for video calls and self-portraits.
Performance, battery, and software
Under the hood, the Redmi 17C 5G is powered by a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor. It can be configured with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Xiaomi also offers storage expansion support up to 1TB, which is useful for users who store a lot of photos, videos, and apps.
On the software side, the device runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 out of the box. However, Xiaomi has not yet confirmed how many software updates or years of support the Redmi 17C 5G will receive.
The phone packs a large 6,000mAh battery with 33W wired charging support. Interestingly, it also supports 10W reverse wired charging, so you can use it to top up other devices in a pinch. Xiaomi claims the battery will retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 charge cycles.
If you’re already thinking about buying one, you can head over to Xiaomi India’s official Redmi 17C 5G purchase page. Online shoppers can also check the Amazon listing or browse Amazon India’s Redmi 17C 5G storefront to compare variants and offers.
Design, extras, and AI features
The Redmi 17C 5G measures just 7.9mm in thickness and weighs around 211 grams. It includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and IP64 splash and dust resistance. Xiaomi has also added Google AI tools such as Circle to Search, Gemini Live, and more.
Price and availability in India
The Redmi 17C 5G starts at ₹20,999 (~$218) for the base 4GB + 128GB model. The 6GB + 128GB variant is priced at ₹22,999 (~$239). Buyers can choose from three color options: Purple Dawn, Dark Night, and Coffee Brew, with the latter featuring a textured leather finish.
The phone will go on sale starting 7th October through Xiaomi India’s official website and Amazon. With its big battery, 120Hz display, and 5G support, the Redmi 17C 5G looks like a solid option for budget-conscious buyers in India.
