| Garmin has finally released a beta update to the Fenix 9 Pro. |
Garmin has officially begun rolling out a significant new firmware update for its latest flagship wearables, bringing a host of new features and crucial bug fixes to the Fenix 9 series and the newly launched Enduro 4.
Following the release of System Software 6.73 just last week, Garmin has moved quickly to introduce Beta Version 7.13. This marks the first public release of the v7.xx firmware, signaling a major step forward for the devices.
While the update was erroneously labeled as "v24.14" in some forum discussions, the official changelog confirms this is a robust release featuring 35 total changes, including five brand-new features and a whopping 25 bug fixes. For users looking to upgrade their hardware, the Fenix 9 Pro is currently available on Amazon for those who want to test these new features on the latest hardware.
New Features and Quality of Life Improvements
According to the official Garmin Beta Program announcement, this update focuses heavily on refining the user experience and adding flexibility to activity tracking.
One of the most requested additions is the new timeout setting for the flashlight quick control, allowing users to customize how long the light stays on. Additionally, Garmin has added distance editing capabilities for XC Ski Indoor and Indoor Cycling profiles, making it easier to correct metrics after a workout.
Other notable features include:
- Pack Weight and Calorie Burn Rate cards: New post-activity metrics for walking and running sports.
- Smooth second hand: A new setting for select watch faces.
- Power Mode Tips: First-time tips to help users navigate power management.
Stability and Bug Fixes
The bulk of the update (25 fixes) addresses system stability and user interface glitches. Garmin has resolved several issues that could cause the watch to crash or shut down unexpectedly, including crashes related to:
- Starting a HIIT activity.
- Searching for points of interest.
- Switching Spotify playlists.
- Using ClimbPro during a Run activity.
- Enabling HR Broadcast from Garmin Connect.
For golf enthusiasts, Garmin has also improved shot detection, and the Indoor Row activity profile has received general improvements. The update also resolves an issue where incoming calls or notifications would play sound even when the watch was in silent mode.
Important Caveats for Beta Testers
While this update brings many improvements, Garmin notes that Beta Version 7.13 disables Dive and ECG features. This is a common occurrence in beta software testing, but users should be aware of the limitation before installing.
Garmin has not yet confirmed when the v7.xx development will transition to a stable software channel, but for those eager to try out the latest fixes, the update is available now via Over-The-Air (OTA) download.
Stay tuned to the Garmin Forums for further rollout details and discussion from other beta testers.
