Twitter announced on Thursday that quarterly sales after the struggle to make its program more attractive to first-time users exceeded expectations and reached $ 1 billion, resulting in a 14% increase in company shares at the start of the session.

Twitter has documented most of its sales growth in this important US market, as the company will face a comprehensive review of how it handles misinformation before the presidential election in November 2020.

The company continues to direct new subscriptions by, for example, letting it focus on topics and trying to clean up spam. In the second half of last year, the company introduced a feature that allows users to hide some responses to their tweets.

Twitter also focuses on related content and notifications, increasing the average number of daily active users who can monetize or display ads on mobile devices when connected via twitter.com or the Twitter app. The number of these users increased from 126 million in the previous year to 152 million in the fourth quarter as of December 31, 2019, which is more than the average estimate of analysts of 147.5 million.

Twitter's quarterly revenue increased 11% year on year to $ 1.01 billion and also exceeded expectations by $ 996.7 million. Total advertising revenue was $ 885 million, an increase of 12% over the previous year. However, the company expects sales in the first quarter of 2020 to range between $ 825 million and $ 885 million, well below Wall Street's estimate of $ 876.2 million.

"Accelerating the introduction of new features is one of Twitter's top priorities this year," said Dorsey CEO, in a telephone conversation with analysts who announced the financial results.

Last November, Twitter announced a political advertisement ban as social media companies began lobbying to stop accepting ads with misleading or incorrect information. But protests in Iowa a few days ago showed that the program is still being used to spread false allegations of election fraud.

Twitter said on Tuesday: It will start tagging tweets with forms of fake content or fraudulently modified forms. He also said that he would intentionally delete the tampered content to mislead him, including content that may endanger personal security, public unrest, voter repression, or the risk of confidentiality.
