Apple steals one of the most popular weather apps on Android

Apple today bought Dark Sky, one of the most popular weather apps launched almost 8 years ago. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

Dark Sky won the Apple Editor Award, and its design that users noticed when it rained was recognized.

Dark Sky said: "Our goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information, and to help as many people as possible to remain dry and safe, in a manner that respects your privacy." In a press release. Apple has spoken of people who confirmed the acquisition, but did not disclose any specific details.

The app says: the iOS version remains the same and the price is $ 3.99, but the Android version is permanently disabled. Android app subscribers can continue to use it until next July 1. Then the service is stopped and the purchase value of the application is recorded.

The app says Apple seems to be trying to buy entirely (Dark Sky), and the API (which allows other apps to use weather data) no longer accepts and continues to work with new developer subscriptions. Current users by the end of 2021.
