Twitter: The number of users increases with lower ad revenue

Twitter saw the highest annual growth rate in the number of users daily who can view ads daily in the second quarter of 2020. Estimates exceeded analyst usage and were lower than analysts' expectations.

The social network generated sales of $ 683 million, down 19% from $ 841 million the previous year.

Compared to the revenue announced in the first quarter of 2020 of $ 808 million, revenue (in the second quarter) decreased by almost 15%.

Twitter reported an operating loss of $ 127 million compared to $ 7 million in the first quarter, mainly due to the effects of the Corona Virus on most ad-supported jobs.

Advertising sales decreased 23% to $ 562 million, or 82% of total Twitter sales.

On the other hand, the platform reported that 186 million active users can trade balance-based currencies (mDAU) every day, 34% up from 139 million users in the same period last year.

Compared to the 166 million daily active users that resulted from previous quarter sales, the new figure also increased by 12%, exceeding the analyst goal of 176 million.

Twitter stopped reporting the number of active users per month in July and instead chose to follow the standard directly (mDAU), the new standard for people who can log in to Twitter and see ads.

The standard does not include logged-in users or users using TweetDeck and other external applications.

CEO Jack Dorsey also addressed piracy issues affecting more than 100 accounts, many of which are owned by major users such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, and found that the company acted quickly. What happened has been fixed and other steps have been taken to improve the flexibility of targeted social engineering attempts.
