Google announces new features in its educational products

Google announced several new features for its educational products, including the renaming of G Suite for Education to Google Workspace for Education.

The company introduced the Workspace trademark for the first time in its office suite in October. However, the Education suite has so far retained the G Suite trademark.

Among other changes made at various levels, the free edition of G Suite for Education has been renamed Google Workspace for Education Basics and G Suite Enterprise for Education has been renamed Google Workspace for Education Plus.

If you are a G Suite Enterprise for Education customer, you will automatically switch to Google Workspace for Education Plus.

Google has also announced changes to its data retention policy for Education customers. Previously, the company provided unlimited storage space to qualified enterprises. Starting next year, the company is moving schools to the cluster storage model and providing a standard for sharing 100 terabytes between an organization.

This policy will go into effect in July 2022 for all existing Google Workspace for Education customers and will apply to new customers registered in 2022.

Google Meet's video conferencing service also contains new features that could be improved for virtual learning. Some of these features also apply to clients outside of the training program.

New features include:

    A feature that can be used to mute any call and end the call with all participants. This feature is about to start and will initially attract education customers
    Emoji Feedback (Emoji reactions) for all Google Meet users launched in August.
    The meeting minutes will be shared with educational clients and institutions later this year.

Additionally, Google is extensively integrating Google Meet and the Google Classroom product.

Students cannot join a Google Meet call created by Google Classroom until the teacher has joined. Google Meet can host the meeting based on your Google student list. The semester is restricted to students and teachers only in the classroom.

These and other features are expected to roll out later this year.

Google Classroom products are also developing new features, including support for third-party service plugins available to Google Workspace for Education Plus customers or "Learning and Learning Upgrade" customers, and offline support for the Android version of the Google Classroom app.
