| Oppo longs for the dream of wireless charging over the air |
Oppo has launched a new wireless air charging solution that can be used when the phone is within 10 cm of the charging station.
The company demonstrated its wireless charging technology in a 30-second clip on the Chinese blogging platform Weibo page at the MWC Shanghai event.
The clip shows the concept of a foldable Oppo X phone announced in November, which can also be placed in the corner on the panel.
According to Obo, this technology is powered by MRI and can provide a charging speed of up to 7.5W.
The company said that if users charge the charging station a few inches from the device, they can play games while charging wirelessly.
According to the trailers released by Xiaomi and Motorola earlier this year, the Chinese manufacturer recently announced a true airborne wireless charging solution.
In January of this year, Xiaomi announced the launch of Mi Air Charge technology, which can charge multiple 5W devices within a few meters.
The next day, Motorola showed a demo showing that one of the phones was charging 100cm from the charger.
In addition, OPPO's technology range is 10 centimeters lower than that of competing Xiaomi solutions.
Unlike Xiaomi's solution, OPPO's new charging method doesn't seem to offer comprehensive coverage.
Mi Air Charge allows remote charging in the air within a few meters, and OPPO's technology appears to be limited to the area above the wireless charger.
These distinctions are currently theoretical as none of these technologies have been introduced into commercial products.
Xiaomi has confirmed that its technology will not be released this year and that the OPPO foldable phone used in the display does not have an official release date.
In addition to developing wireless chargers that can operate over longer distances, manufacturers are also accelerating standard wireless charging.
Xiaomi is developing an 80W wireless charging solution that was announced just months after OPPO launched its 65W wireless charging technology.
