| NIU announces its first electric scooter |
NIU, the popular and affordable e-bike manufacturer, has revealed its first electric scooter, so the new two-wheeled bike will be available in China, Europe and North America this summer.
There are two versions of the NIU scooter, the Pro and the Sport: in the US, the Pro scooter has a speed of 19.8 mph, while the Sport version has a speed of 17.4 mph.
In Europe, the top speed for both versions will reach 25 kilometers per hour.
The Pro has a range of 50 km per charge for 7.5 hours, while the Sport Edition has a range of 40 km per charge for 5.5 hours.
For driving, NIU provides a 350-watt electric motor and a 486-watt lithium-ion battery for the professional scooter, while the sport is powered by a 300-watt electric motor and a 365-watt battery.
The scooter is waterproof, foldable, has bluetooth connectivity and regenerative braking.
The cheapest version of the scooter starts at $ 599, although NIU has not released any other pricing information.
NIU is best known in North America for its popular $ 2000 electric bike that is used by shared transit vehicles such as the Revel and Lime.
Electric bikes can be purchased in a few cities in the United States, including San Francisco, San Diego, Austin, Chicago, Washington DC, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Honolulu.
The scooter will go on sale in June 2021 and are scheduled to be delivered to the USA and Europe in July 2021.
Global retail starts in August 2021 and the scooters can be purchased online or at all NIU dealers and stores in Europe and North America.
Electric scooters are widely used in the United States, including the Segway-Ninebot, Inokim, Acton, Unagi and other models of electric scooters available at many retailers.
However, battery electric bikes are difficult to use in North America.
Big manufacturers like Gogoro tend to focus their sales in larger markets like China, while the US is vulnerable due to its auto-centered infrastructure.
