Microsoft develops Xbox games for the cloud

After Google announced on February 1 that it wouldn't keep its promise to develop games like this, it looks like Microsoft will soon take over the development of games for the cloud.

Microsoft has hired Kim Swift, the former design director of Google Stadia, known for the popular gaming portal.

“Kim is building a team focused on new cloud experiences,” said Peter Weiss, director of publishing at Xbox Game Studios, adding that Microsoft's goal is to create cloud-native games.

Since his student project Narbacular Drop helped his team find work with Valve Software and lead the development of the portal, Swift has been in the game industry for more than a decade.

She became the developer of Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, developed an entirely new game for Amazon, and was the Director of Design for EA Studio.

But perhaps her most important role is that she just left her job at Google Stadia, where she oversaw the development of dozens of third-party games.

Identifies potential research and development within Google to turn it into a new project with the latest innovative technology. This means that he worked with Google and closest Google Games partners who may have benefited from the cloud.

Games that you can play through cloud services do not apply to cloud. It is designed to work on existing platforms and computers.

So the advantages of the cloud are faster load times, no need to install higher games and graphics.

Every game you play on Microsoft xCloud on the Xbox One platform runs in a server rack. So it's not much different from the experience of playing Xbox at home.

Microsoft creates custom games for the cloud:

Google promises to offer more games one day that can take advantage of the capabilities of multiple servers. It's about providing you with gameplay and graphics that no single platform at home can achieve.

Jade Raymond, CEO of Google Games Industry, said in 2019, that it could take several years to develop games that take full advantage of cloud computing.

With Google Studios closed, Raymond is now developing games for Sony without explicitly mentioning the cloud. But Swift is now working with Microsoft to create a new native game for cloud streaming.

There are other signs that Microsoft is also taking cloud gaming seriously. The company recently announced that it will be upgrading its xCloud server to the latest Xbox Series X versions instead of the Xbox One S.

In addition, Microsoft said: This will allow the Xbox One platform to function normally as well. This makes it possible to play games like flight simulators that were previously not possible without cloud broadcasting.
