| Sony sold 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles |
Sony has sold more than 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles, and these numbers represent an increase in sales of 2 million game consoles from the 7.8 million units announced by the Japanese company in April.
10 million PlayStation 5 units have been sold eight months after it debuted on November 12.
This means that PlayStation 5 sales continue to outpace PlayStation 4 and become the best-selling game console in Sony's history.
The PlayStation 5 platform has strong sales. However, due to the global chip shortage, sales are still limited and it is difficult to purchase a platform at the moment.
While the PlayStation 5 has become more popular than any previous platform, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said: “With PlayStation 5 demand continuing to outpace supply, we still have a lot to do.”
"I want gamers to know that increasing inventory levels remains a top priority for Sony Interactive Entertainment as we continue to face unique challenges that affect our industry and many others around the world."
The Japanese company also shared some of the highlights of Spider-Man on PlayStation 5: Miles Morales has sold more than 6.5 million copies since its release in November.
And Ricky and Clank: Rift has sold more than 1.1 million copies since its release last month. Returnal has also sold more than 560,000 copies since its launch in April.
Sony sold 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles
The Japanese company continues to share sales data for PlayStation game consoles. The US company has not shared sales figures for Xbox consoles since the Xbox One.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, “The Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X are one of the best-selling gaming consoles, and their platform outperforms all previous generations.
Daniel Ahmed, chief analyst at Niko Partners, shared his estimate on Twitter that Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X sales reached 6.5 million units as of June 30, 2021.
That's more than the previous estimate of 5.7 million for the Xbox One. At the same time, the number of Xbox 360 devices is 5 million.
