Tesla is trying to make up for the lack of chips

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company is addressing the global chip scarcity by rewriting its automotive software to support alternative chips.

In an era of historical demand for new cars, this shortage has affected the auto industry, leading to factory closures, longer waiting times, and higher prices.

"We can replace the replacement chipsets and write the firmware in a few weeks," Musk said. It's not just about swapping chips. You will also have to rewrite the program.

The company said this approach has helped Tesla maintain high levels of production and ship more than 200,000 vehicles to its customers in the past three months.

The company generated $11.9 billion in sales for the quarter, of which $1.1 billion was in profit.

Tesla isn't the only one feeling the effects of global scarcity. As demand for cars reaches its peak in history, automakers around the world are feeling the production constraints imposed by the supply of chips.

Daimler and BMW announced this week that they had been forced to shut down some assembly lines due to a chip shortage and that production from both companies had fallen by tens of thousands.

Tesla overcomes the shortage of chips

Musk said Tesla's future growth depends on how quickly the global semiconductor shortage is addressed.

"The global chip shortage remains very serious," he added. For the remainder of this year, our growth rate will be determined by the slowest part of our supply chain. This includes many of the chips used in our cars.

Tesla relies on chips to power everything from airbags to devices that control car seat belts.

As a result, the company now lacks the necessary components for automotive safety functions.

"The biggest problem this quarter is with the department that checks airbags and seat belts," Musk said. Without these things, of course, you cannot transport a car.

In addition, it seems that Elon Musk is full of doubts about the future of semiconductor supply. He said his condition seemed to be improving. But it is difficult to predict.
