Fossil launches a new smartwatchs for 2021

Fossil announced its line of Wear OS smartwatches in fall 2021, which the company calls Gen 6 for touchscreen smartwatches.

Like the fifth generation watches, the sixth generation watches come in different shapes and sizes. There are also versions sold under the Michael Kors brand.

This watch has a 1.28 inch round AMOLED touch screen. It is available in 42 and 44 mm sizes. It can withstand swimming up to 3 atm.

It has a built-in speaker and microphone that you can use to make calls or talk to the Google Assistant when the smartwatch is connected to a smartphone.

Prices start at $299. It can be booked immediately. And the company doesn't seem to offer any LTE options.

These watches come with the current Wear OS 2 instead of the new Wear OS 3 that runs on the latest Samsung Galaxy watches.

Fossil has announced that it will roll out Wear OS 3 upgrades for 6th generation watches in 2022. Google has stated that Wear OS 2 watches will not be updated until late 2022.

However, Gen 6 watches won't have the latest software for a while. But the company is still making significant strides by mobilizing more technology than before.

The company added a SpO2 sensor to track oxygen levels in the blood and claimed to be upgrading the heart rate sensor to improve signal accuracy.

Fossil also said that the Gen 6 will be the first watch to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus processor.

Let's also assume that the processor offers faster speeds, more efficient power consumption, and faster loading.

A small advantage of Fossil over Samsung's new Galaxy Watch is that Generation 6 uses Google Assistant and Google Pay instead of Bixby and Samsung Pay from Samsung.

And only a few Wear OS manufacturers can keep up with that. As a result, the options are very limited for Android users who are looking for a fully functional watch.

Aside from Samsung's selection, there is nothing else but the TicWatch series from Fossil and Mobvoi. Almost all other manufacturers have given up or switched to lightweight internal software.
