Turn off iCloud Photo Service on iPhone and iPad

iCloud Photos is a great place to automatically backup photos stored on your iPhone or iPad because it gives you 5GB of free space. However, if you are out of space and don't want to upgrade to a paid plan, consider turning it off.

What you need to know before you start

You can turn off the service on your phone or tablet without losing photos or videos. However, it is recommended to back up all the photos and videos on the device.

You can upload all your photos and videos directly to your account on another cloud storage service through the iCloud website, or transfer them to your Windows or Mac computer using a USB cable.

Before stopping the service on your device, it is recommended to switch to the Download and Keep Original option as this option will download the full resolution of all iCloud photos and videos taken from all devices.

If your account does not have enough storage space, please upload photos from the iCloud website before stopping the service.

If you are using the service on a separate device, the original version can still be used at full resolution on other devices using the service as well. However, the photo will be deleted from your current device within 30 days before it is deleted.

They can be restored by re-enabling the option to download and save the original file. If you use all the capacity available to the service, your photos will not be downloaded and your gallery will not be updated on all your devices.
