YouTube pays YouTubers up to $10,000 per month to create popular videos using competing YouTube shorts.

Earlier this year, the platform announced that it would invest heavily in content by providing a $100 million YouTube Shorts fund.

The company expects to pay $100 million next year, the first payment this month. The fund can make a lot of money for content creators. But the payment cannot be guaranteed.

The popularity required to make money depends on the number of people who create and watch YouTube short videos each month. The return on investment also depends on the location of each creator's audience.

The platform also requires the video to be original. Re-uploading watermarked videos from other platforms will disqualify the channel for payment.

Payments are currently available in 10 regions. Including USA, UK, India, Brazil, etc. The platform announced that it will be added to this list in the future.

Content creators are usually paid through YouTube based on the ads that appear before their videos, and there is a direct relationship between the number of ad views and the amount they receive.

However, with YouTube Shorts, the platform doesn't want ads running before every quick clip. Hence, it is building this alternative payment method to reward content creators.

YouTube's chief product officer, Neil Mohan, said the YouTube Shorts fund would later be replaced by a scalable long-term monetization plan.

Mohan added, "You're basically using the YouTube Short feed, so the template should work differently.

Payment systems like this are becoming more and more popular. Both Tik Tok and Snapchat pay creators based on the popularity of the videos. Instead of relying on ads.

The result should be profitable for the content creators. This is despite the fact that creators' income in a given month is less transparent.

Mohan said the platform does not force YouTube users to use short YouTube clips to improve audience engagement.

“If content creators want to make a two-hour documentary on a specific topic that interests them, this platform should be the right place,” he said. If he wants to make a short 15-second video on YouTube, he should be able to do it.
