| The new Apple Watch uses the same processor as its predecessor |
Apple launched a new generation of Apple Watch Series 7 smartwatches earlier this month after multiple rumors about the next generation of watches.
However, contrary to rumors, the Apple Watch Series 7 does not have a completely new design. And it looks like Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021 and Apple Watch Series 6 in 2020 will have the same processor.
During the demo, the company did not reveal the performance of the Apple Watch Series 7. The company widely advises that its new devices are faster or more energy-efficient. But there was no mention of the Apple Watch Series 7 on stage.
When you visit the Apple website, there is no mention of the chip that powers the Apple Watch Series 7.
However, developer Steve Troughton-Smith has confirmed using the latest version of Xcode (a platform that allows developers to create apps for corporate devices) that the Apple Watch Series 7 has the same processor as the Apple Watch Series 6 from last year.
The Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch Series 6 both use the t8301 processor, which is the code name for the processor in the Apple S6 or SiP package.
Since their internal numbers are exactly the same, this indicates that the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch Series 6 are using the same internal components in terms of CPU.
Apple Watch has an improved charging system
This isn't the first time the company has used one processor in another product. However, as noted by developer Guilherme Rambo, Apple did not use a slightly modified version of the Apple Watch Series 6 processor.
The fact that the Apple Watch Series 7 shares the exact same chip as its predecessor supports some theories that the company completely rethought the Apple Watch this year.
The company has reportedly increased the size of the case to accommodate the new Retina display. It has 20% more screen space than the Apple Watch Series 6.
The case is also 40% thinner and includes key design changes that make it the company's longest lasting watch.
The front crystal is by far the toughest, the company said, and the overall unit is IP6X certified and WR50 water resistant.
iPhone 13 and iPad mini 6 will ship next week. The company said that the Apple Watch Series 7 will be available later this year but did not reveal any other details. Detailed product specifications were also not disclosed.
