| Huawei launched the Matebook 16 laptop |
Huawei released its first 16-inch laptop with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Compared to a standard 16:9 screen, it gives you more vertical workspace.
This laptop was introduced in China last May and is now heading to Europe. The MateBook 16 uses an IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2520 x 1680 pixels and a density of 189 pixels per inch.
The panel features a contrast ratio of 1500:1 and a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m² (DC dimming is supported, so no PWM).
It supports HDR and covers 100% of the sRGB color space. Factory calibrated deltaE = intermediate one, it is a touchscreen with anti-fingerprint coating on toughened glass.
You can choose from two Zen 3 APUs to power the 6-core and 8-core Ryzen 5 5600H and Ryzen 7 5800H laptop and the integrated Vega GPU with 7-core or 8-core CPUs.
Two 75mm fans, two thicker heat pipes and a copper alloy radiator can control the temperature.
The Ryzen APU is equipped with 16GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB NVMe SSD.
The MateBook 16 is powered by an 84W battery, which is enough for 12.5 hours of local video playback. Equipped with a 135W fast charger, it takes 15 minutes to get enough battery for 3.5 hours of office work.
This charger uses USB-C. Therefore, you can also use it with Huawei smartphones that support SuperCharge. On one side are two USB-C ports that connect to a full-size HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone and microphone combo.
Huawei brings the Matebook 16 to Europe
On the other side there are also two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports. If you don't want to plug in a wired microphone, you'll find stereo speakers (2 x 2W) and two built-in microphones around your laptop keyboard.
AI noise canceling can suppress ambient noise and prevent echo during a call.
The keyboard does not have a numeric keypad. Underneath it is a large touchpad with durable frosted glass.
The entire laptop is 17.8mm thick and weighs 1.99kg. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.1 support. The power button has a built-in fingerprint reader so you can securely log into Windows without a password.
Computer-smartphone collaboration allows you to connect your smartphone to your laptop and run up to three mobile apps on your laptop screen.
You can control it with your keyboard and mouse, including drag and drop, to transfer files between devices and even edit documents stored on your phone.
Huawei MateBook 16 is about to land in the European market. The cost of the Ryzen 5 5600H version is 1,100 euros. The cost of the Ryzen 7 5800H version is 1,200 euros.
