Huawei has officially launched the P50 Pocket Premium Edition, a foldable smartphone with a 1 inch round external display for quick access to notifications and widgets.

The device was launched in China. But US sanctions (which means Huawei can't use key technologies like Google's Android operating system) means the P50 Pocket Premium Edition won't work in the West.

Earlier this month, the company mocked the phone with a photo session that focused on the P50 Pocket Premium Edition that appeared at Harper's Bazaar China.

This version of the device was created in collaboration with Dutch designer Iris van Herpen. The device is made of gold or silver with a three-dimensional pattern on the outside.

When the phone was turned on, a 6.9-inch OLED screen appeared with a 21:9 screen and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device weighs 190 grams and is only 7.2 mm thick. Huawei compared it to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which weighs 238 grams and is 7.65 mm thick.

This phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G processor, a 4000 mAh battery and supports Huawei Hongmeng system.

The main camera line of the P50 Pocket Premium Edition includes a 40-megapixel main sensor, a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 32-pixel wide-angle lens, and Huawei claims it can capture a wide range of colors. .

Camera built into the main screen. However, Huawei indicated that the foldable phone design makes it more convenient to take selfies with the main camera, and the 1-inch cover can be used as a lens camera.

The company positions the case itself as an important part of the charm of the P50 Pocket Premium Edition. In addition to displaying notifications or the time, the screen can also be used for tools that users can use to control music, follow instructions, etc.

So, when you use your phone to navigate to a new city, the title screen shows step-by-step instructions instead of forcing you to open the large 6.9-inch home screen to check your location. .

The P50 Pocket Edition also has a new hinge that does not leave space between screens when folded. It is in no way inferior to devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 3, another flip. But there is a small gap in it when it is folded.

The device also has a face unlock function on the home screen and deck screen. There is a side-mounted fingerprint unlock sensor that comes in handy as many people are still wearing masks during the pandemic.

The standard version of this phone is available in China with a capacity of 8/256 GB and a price of about $ 1,400. The 12/512GB premium version costs around $1700.

The Standard Edition is available in black and white, while the Premium Edition is available in Silver or Gold.

Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said the clamshell design provides a more refined approach to foldable devices.
