Google launches Android 12L for Pixel phones


After developers previewed Android 12L and three beta builds, Google released the next Android version - officially 12.1 - for Pixel phones in March along with the new features, while the company detailed the tablet and foldable devices.

Last October, the company announced Android 12L to improve the operating system for tablets and foldable devices.

Android 12L gets several usability improvements with new animations, including pulsing when using the in-display fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6.

Speaking of the lock screen, the two-wire clock can now be disabled via Settings. The time is always displayed in the top left.

On the home screen, a long press brings up a new quick wallpaper picker showing the last four wallpapers.

If you click on one of them, the background image will be refreshed with an animation. Glance also got a small update, clicking again on a date or date opens Google Calendar. When you open the widget's menu, it now takes up the entire page.

Android 12L brings many changes to the quick settings. The Internet and Screen Recording areas are no longer pinned to the bottom or top of the screen. But he is stationed. There's also an animation of the power menu that expands and contracts on the buttons at the bottom of the quick settings row.

And in the latest multitasking menu, the split-screen option is now called Split Top. The splitting and bending of the application window is more important.

Various UI elements including sound, vibration, unlocking the device's camera or microphone have also been updated with better spacing and new buttons.

In addition to the changes that Android 12L brings, this month also coincides with the new March features for Pixel phones.

And Android 12L adds a taskbar (up to six apps) on tablets and foldable devices to quickly split the screen and switch between apps while multitasking.

This last screen also contains a reticle display. While the lock screen and notifications have a two-column layout. This is designed to give you more space to view notifications. The quick settings toggle appears on the left, and notifications appear on the right.

The Settings app and other parts of Android have also been optimized for tablets and foldable devices. On the main screen, in some configurations, a search box appears next to the application line.

When setting up a new device, the two-column layout allows you to display additional information. You can change the features in the settings without having to go in and out of each section.

Samsung, Lenovo, and Microsoft plan to release Android 12L updates for tablets and foldable devices later this year.

Android 12L is rolling out today to the Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, and Pixel 5a phones. It will be released on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro later this month.
