SEGA Confirms Physical Cart Release for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Switch 2, Slated for 2026

In a move that’s revving up excitement among retro enthusiasts and modern gamers alike, SEGA announced today that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds—the high-octane crossover racer blending iconic franchises—will receive a full physical cartridge release for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console. The title, initially teased as a digital-only launch, is now confirmed to hit store shelves in early 2026.

The decision follows overwhelming fan demand for tangible editions of the game, which unites characters from SonicJet Set RadioCrazy Taxi, and even surprise cameos from Atlus’ Persona series. "Physical media remains core to our heritage," said SEGA’s Chief Brand Officer, Kenna Williams. "Holding a cartridge, seeing the art, sharing it with friends—that magic isn’t replaceable. We’re thrilled to deliver this to our players."

Early gameplay previews showcase gravity-defying tracks across multiversal realms, team-based power-ups, and a soundtrack fusing Crush 40’s rock anthems with Hideki Naganuma’s electrifying beats. The Switch 2’s enhanced hardware promises 60 FPS performance, reduced load times, and exclusive haptic feedback features for the physical edition.

Analysts note this move signals SEGA’s renewed commitment to preservation—a nod to Saturn and Dreamcast collectors who’ve long championed physical releases.
