The global smartphone arena is about to get a powerful new contender. OnePlus has officially announced the international launch of its upcoming OnePlus 15R, setting the stage for a potential flagship coup. If it lands as scheduled on December 17, 2025, it will claim the title of the first smartphone in the global market powered by the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor.
This global model is a rebrand of the recently unveiled Ace 6T for the Chinese market, and OnePlus is building anticipation by revealing key specs that promise an "ultimate performance" experience.
More Than Just a Chip: A Performance Trinity
While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the headline act, OnePlus is emphasizing a trio of performance pillars. The company confirms the 15R will be equipped with a cutting-edge G2 WiFi chipset paired with a dedicated Touch Response Chip. This combination, working in concert with the flagship Snapdragon silicon, is engineered to handle everything from lightning-fast downloads to hyper-responsive gaming and scrolling. You can explore the official launch page for more details on this performance promise.
A Display Built for Brilliance and Comfort
Through teasers on its Chinese Weibo account, OnePlus has also pulled back the curtain on what could be one of the year's best screens. The OnePlus 15R will feature a expansive 6.83-inch display with a buttery-smooth 165 Hz refresh rate.
But it's not just about speed. The panel boasts a claimed "global maximum brightness" of 1,800 nits, ensuring superb visibility even under direct sunlight. For media lovers, it supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, promising vibrant, cinematic visuals. The brand is also heavily promoting eye comfort, incorporating 3,840 Hz PWM dimming and hardware-level blue light reduction to minimize strain during long viewing sessions.
Flagship Touches and a Special Edition
Further solidifying its premium positioning, OnePlus has confirmed the 15R will use the same advanced fingerprint scanner found in its last-generation flagship, the OnePlus 14 Pro (which you can check out on Amazon). It also inherits the practical Rain Touch 2.0 technology, designed to recognize inputs accurately even when the screen is wet—a small but significant quality-of-life feature.
Interestingly, the Chinese variant of the Ace 6T will also receive a special Genshin Impact edition, complete with themed design and software tweaks. However, OnePlus has indicated this collector's edition is unlikely to be available globally at launch.
While official global pricing remains under wraps, the imminent Chinese launch means all financial details should be public very soon. All signs point to the OnePlus 15R being a formidable, performance-focused device ready to make a splash this December.
