HMD Global appears to be gearing up for a significant refresh of its popular Crest lineup. Just months after the debut of the original HMD Crest and Crest Max, a new leak has surfaced detailing the successor devices: the HMD Crest 2 and HMD Crest 2 Pro.

The leak, which comes from reliable tipster smashx_60 on X (formerly Twitter), not only spills the complete technical specifications of both handsets but also gives us our first look at the devices through rendered images. If the information holds true, HMD is focusing on battery life, display quality, and a significant camera gap between the standard and Pro models.

A Tale of Two Displays and Processors

According to the leaked specs, both the HMD Crest 2 and Crest 2 Pro will share a similar footprint, featuring a large 6.78-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display. However, the visual fluidity will be a key differentiator. While the standard Crest 2 is expected to cap out at a 90Hz refresh rate, the Crest 2 Pro will step up to a smoother 120Hz refresh rate—a crucial upgrade for gamers and heavy scrollers.

Under the hood, both devices are slated to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor. This marks a shift toward Qualcomm silicon for the series. Memory configurations will differ, with the Crest 2 offering 6GB of RAM, while the Pro variant bumps that up to 8GB. Storage, however, remains generous across the board, with both models featuring 256GB of internal space.

Camera Divergence and Battery Dominance

The most notable split between the two devices occurs in the camera department. HMD appears to be positioning the Pro model as a photography-focused device.

  • HMD Crest 2: Triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, accompanied by two 2MP lenses (likely for depth and macro).
  • HMD Crest 2 Pro: A more robust triple camera array featuring a 64MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP tertiary sensor.

Selfie enthusiasts will also see a difference. While the leak confirms the Crest 2 Pro will sport a 50MP front-facing camera, the resolution of the front camera on the standard Crest 2 was not mentioned in the initial leak.

Update: The tipster later shared a close-up look at the camera module of the Pro model. You can see the image and the full details of the 64MP sensor below:

Perhaps the most impressive feature shared between the two models is the battery. The leak indicates a massive 6,000mAh battery—a notable upgrade over the 5,000mAh cells found in the original Crest and Crest Max. This larger battery will support 33W fast charging, ensuring that even with the large displays, users should easily get through a full day (or two) of use.

Additional shared features include dual speakers with Nokia OZO audio enhancement, dual microphones for better call clarity, and an IP65 dust and water resistance rating, offering peace of mind against splashes and dust.

Software and Design Language

On the software front, HMD is keeping things current. The Crest 2 and Crest 2 Pro are expected to ship with Android 16 out of the box, suggesting a launch timeline that aligns with the rollout of Google’s next major OS update.

The leaked images showcase a modern design language. Both phones feature flat frames with a centered punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The rear camera module is housed in a slightly protruding squircle (square-circle) island.

Color options appear to be vibrant:

  • HMD Crest 2: Green, Blue, and Purple.
  • HMD Crest 2 Pro: Blue, Green, and a striking Pink/Peach.

India Launch and Availability

Given that the previous Crest smartphones were exclusive to the Indian market, it is highly likely that the Crest 2 and Crest 2 Pro will follow the same path. HMD has been aggressively targeting the mid-range segment in India, and these devices—with their massive batteries and competitive specs—seem tailored for that audience.

While the leak covers nearly every spec, two key details remain unknown: the official announcement date and the pricing. Given the upgrades in battery, processor, and display, we can expect a slight premium over the original Crest series, though HMD will likely keep them competitive in the sub-$250 (or sub-₹20,000) range.

Stay tuned for official confirmation as we get closer to the launch.

The HMD Crest 2 Pro will have a 64MP primary rear camera.

The HMD Crest 2 will have a 90Hz refresh rate.
