Samsung’s upcoming flagship tablet is shaping up to be a study in contrasts, according to the latest wave of leaks. While the hardware design appears to be frozen in time, the performance under the hood is getting a significant shakeup that could redefine the tablet market.
Recent renders and design leaks have painted a picture of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra that is nearly indistinguishable from its predecessor, the Tab S11 Ultra. Samsung is seemingly sticking with the divisive display notch that houses the dual selfie cameras, a choice that has drawn mixed reactions from fans since its introduction. The dimensions are also reportedly identical, measuring in at 326.3 x 208.5 x 5.1mm, suggesting that the company is focusing on refining the software experience rather than reinventing the wheel.
However, the real story might be what is powering the device. A new Geekbench listing has surfaced for a device carrying the model number SM-X946B. While the listing itself does not name the tablet, the number aligns closely with the Tab S11 Ultra's SM-X936B, making it a safe bet that this is the Tab S12 Ultra. The listing reveals that the Tab S12 Ultra is running a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, a significant departure from the Snapdragon processors that have traditionally powered Samsung’s high-end tablets in many regions. The chipset scores 2,424 in single-core and 8,446 in multi-core tests, representing a modest but welcome bump in performance over the Tab S11 Ultra.
The core layout—one prime core, three performance cores, and four efficiency cores—confirms it is the Dimensity 9500, clocked at speeds of 4.21GHz. The tested unit also features 12GB of RAM, matching the base configuration of last year's model, with a 16GB variant likely to be available for those who need maximum multitasking power.
Beyond the processor, the rest of the Tab S12 Ultra seems to be a case of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it." Rumors point to a familiar 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, an 11,600mAh battery with 45W charging, and a camera system that includes a 13MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP front camera.
On the software side, the tablet is expected to debut with One UI 9 based on Android 17. If Samsung maintains its aggressive update policy, the Tab S12 Ultra will likely offer seven years of Android upgrades and security patches.
With Samsung's typical release cadence, the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is expected to be unveiled around September, likely alongside the Galaxy S26 FE. While the design may not be turning heads, the shift to MediaTek's cutting-edge silicon could make this one of the most powerful Android tablets on the market.
